Join Save UP! DailyWorth's 2010 Saving Challenge
Ready, set ... JOIN Save UP! on DailyWorth, a year-long, savings initiative that will help every DailyWorth member build her net worth. You now have thousands of women (all of us)—your built-in cheering squad and advisory board as you save (and unravel why it can be such a !@#$%#&@! challenge).
You've heard a kazillion times that people need to save more, but women need to save more than most. Why?
- Two-thirds of women lack an emergency fund that would cover their bills for a few months, according to a 2009 survey by Financial Finesse.
- Less than half of working women have access to a retirement plan through their jobs, according to a June 2009 report by the Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement.
- Of those that do, only 72% participate!
| How to Participate |

Participation is free, voluntary and quite low-tech. It does require some effort on your part. |

My plan WAS to increase our savings in the next couple of months to $700 per month, or about 10% of our income. But that's a total fantasy! It won't get me to $10K! I really need to save (gulp) just over $800 per month, effective immediately. Or, I need to adjust my savings goal.
And, I hate to say it, but as I read through the pledges thus far, many of you have similar math problems. ;-)
Let's all take our calculators and run the numbers. Make sure your plan, even if you're ramping up slowly, adds up to your goal!

1/15/10 Check:
- January deposit of $250. On track to reach my goal of amounting $3,000 in my savings account by December.
- Increased my 401 contribution to 7% (goal is to keep - and increase if a raise comes my way - and not reduce it at the first "need more money" sign)
I also set another personal goal today. Not related to savings, but a "make me feel good" goal: I set up 2 monthly charity donations: St. "Jude's Hospital" and "Doctors Without Boards". I also made a one-time donation to the Yele Haiti Foundation.
Does anybody know if we are supposed to keep updating our progress here (like Women in Red)or if another page will be created for this purpose?
