Working Mom

Save your money. Keep your perfume, tulips, the over-priced cards, and even the breakfast in bed. (Because guess who ends up changing the crumb-encrusted sheets?) What we moms really want for Mother’s Day is relief—for the super-hard, never-ending, but beyond-rewarding job of motherhood. A break from our own nagging and worrying. Now that I’m a mama, I finally understand why my mother has this hokey plaque hanging in her kitchen: “I like hugs and I like kisses. But what I really love is help with the dishes.” Unload the dishwasher. Do a load of laundry (start to finish, people!). Wipe down the counters. Make a pediatrician appointment. Spearhead planning for the birthday party. Hang up that picture in the hall. And while we’re on the subject, don’t just do it today. Do it every day. Mother’s Day is once a year, but giving us a hand shouldn’t be. It's the little things.

What do you want for Mother's Day this year?
