Jennifer is the founder of Damsels in Design, a cross-disciplinary membership organization for New York-based women in design. As the face of the company, Jennifer’s style is crucial—networking is, quite literally, her job. So who better to take advice from? We sat back and soaked it in.
What’s your daytime work style?
My daytime work style is ladylike chic. Think Jackie O., but swap out the pearls for a big statement necklace. Since I run a design organization, I like to leave a memorable impression, and fashion is such an easy way to do it without having to open my mouth. I love color—it’s easy to be noticed in New York when you’re wearing a bright pink shift dress in a sea of black suits.
How do you take your look from office to evening?
I always carry a pair of heels with me. I swap out my ballet flats for a pair of nude, patent leather pumps (they go with everything!) or espadrilles in the summer. Under-eye concealer is a major must for me. Being an entrepreneur, I never get enough sleep, so I definitely need to cover up those dark circles! Everything in the Nars collection works wonders. It’s expensive, but worth it: The products last at least six months.
What’s your weekend style?
In the summer, I wear a cotton minidress with a chambray on top and a pair of pearl earrings. Come fall and winter, I’m in J.Crew black leggings with an oversize sweater and Frye boots (NYC winters are cold, so boots are a must).
What’s your best piece of personal style advice?
Adding jewelry can make even the simplest outfit look and feel glamorous. It’s cheaper to buy an amazing statement necklace than it is to purchase an entire outfit—and believe me, you will have the necklace for much longer.
