Thrift is Good, Earning is Better

Ramit Sethi

Amanda Steinberg asked Ramit Sethi, founder of “I Will Teach You to Be Rich“, about how to develop your earning power.

A lot of money advice focuses on cutting back. Why don’t more people look for ways to earn more on the side?
I was actually curious about this, so I studied 100,000-plus people to figure out the exact answers. (In fact, that led me to create a free mini-course on earning more.)

One common reason I discovered is: “I don’t have an idea.” We think we need a totally original idea to start a side business, but originality is overrated. Picking something you’re good at—and people will pay for—matters more.

Do you have to quit your job to start a business?
No! I recommend my students earn money on the side to diversify their incomes.

The first step is finding out IF and HOW the market will pay for one of your talents.

Your first goal should be to find three paying clients. The first might be your sister. The second might be your aunt. But the third isn’t a fluke—that’s when you know the market really wants your service.

With just five to 10 hours a week, most of us can earn $1,000 per month on the side.

I put together a collection of videos and tools to help you find a profitable idea and get started today. Get a free mini-course on how to earn more.

Aim high. How would you earn more, if you could?
