Think less and get paid more

If you’re anything like me, you constantly have numbers spinning through your mind. You’re adding up how much you owe, to whom, and by when. You are making frequent mental notes of what else you'd like to buy that you can't quite afford. You are thinking about what bills are due, as well as how much you are going to get paid and for how long.  Maybe you are even thinking about retirement, how far off it is, and whether you will have enough money saved.

Even if you’re not thinking about money every moment of the day, you very likely focus on it consistently enough that it's draining your energy — which distracts from your ability to be creative and contribute positively to your life and the world

Fortunately, there is something you can do that will bring you more money, relax your mind, and free up your creative energy so that you can be who you want to be, with significantly  more ease, grace, and flow. The trick is to get all of those numbers out of your head and onto paper.

The very first step is to get clear on what you really want.

What is the lifestyle you really want to have? Get as specific as you can. Consider it not just on one dimension, but on four: “minimum to be happy,” “preferred if you could afford it,” “no limits,” and the cold, hard reality of “now.”  Then, assign dollar amounts to each of those dimensions. What will it cost to live your life at each of those levels, versus what life costs you now?

Write it down in as much detail and with as much specificity as possible. (If you need help, try this online tool I created to make it easier.)  Then, consider how much time you want to use to earn this income. Put yourself first and your family time second. Only after you've allocated time to the most important people in your life, look at how much time you realistically have left over to generate revenue. The great thing about this process is that as you work through it, those numbers are going to come out of your head and live on paper (or in your computer), freeing up your mind for other pursuits.

Once you've looked at how much income you need for the life you want, and how much time you have to generate that income, you can easily price and package your services to bring in exactly what you need in the time you have available. By combining the right inputs with an organized methodology, your mind transforms from scattered, scared, and spinning to relaxed, confident, and creative.

Suddenly, you will find yourself flooded with so many possibilities to earn enough for your desired lifestyle without overworking, stressing out, or overbooking your time. And, with your renewed focus, you will be able to sort through those possibilities to bring you what you want, because something magical happens when you know exactly how much money you need to earn.

This process allows you to make your life decisions from a place of clarity and connection to truth, rather than based on worry and fear. It will take a bit of time, but it's so worth it to shift your brain from a spinning ball of stress to its real purpose — a creative solution machine.
